Napoli climbed to the summit of Serie A after a hard-fought 2-1 comeback victory over Genoa, powered by another crucial strike from Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish forward continued his excellent form by netting the winner 15 minutes from time, sealing all three points for the reigning champions in Naples.
Fresh from a midweek brace against Sporting Lisbon, Hojlund once again proved his worth. The 22-year-old reacted quickest after Genoa goalkeeper Nicola Leali parried Andre-Frank Anguissa’s fierce shot, slotting home the rebound to take his tally to four goals in all competitions since joining Napoli from Manchester United.
It was far from straightforward for Antonio Conte’s side, who had to dig deep after falling behind in the first half. Genoa’s teenage forward Jeff Ekhator stunned the home crowd by scoring just his second Serie A goal, giving the visitors a shock lead before halftime. Napoli, however, responded with determination and intensity after the break.
The equaliser came in the 57th minute when Anguissa bundled the ball over the line following a scrappy goalmouth exchange, setting the stage for a thrilling final half-hour. With relentless pressure and superior possession, Napoli eventually found their reward through Hojlund’s decisive finish, maintaining their unbeaten start to the league campaign.
The victory lifts Napoli to 15 points from six matches, ahead of Roma on goal difference. Conte’s men will remain top unless AC Milan defeat Juventus in Turin’s headline clash later on Sunday, a game that could further shake up the title race.
Roma, meanwhile, secured their third consecutive league win with a 2-1 triumph over Fiorentina in Florence. After Moise Kean fired Fiorentina ahead with a thunderous strike in the 14th minute, Roma responded swiftly. Matias Soule equalised before Bryan Cristante headed in what proved to be the winning goal just before halftime.
Kean nearly restored parity when another powerful effort struck the post, while Fiorentina’s Roberto Piccoli was denied by the crossbar late on. The hosts remain without a win, sitting just above the relegation zone with three points.
As the season gathers momentum, Napoli’s blend of resilience and attacking firepower under Conte continues to send a clear message — the champions are not ready to relinquish their crown.
