Former UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya, widely celebrated for his flamboyant fighting style and global influence in mixed martial arts, is now setting his sights on life beyond the octagon. Following a string of setbacks in his MMA career, Adesanya is taking a strategic pivot into property development a move that signals his commitment to securing a stable financial future and expanding his legacy beyond sport.
Adesanya’s decision comes in the wake of a disappointing second-round TKO loss to Nassourdine Imavov at UFC Fight Night 250 in Saudi Arabia earlier this year. The defeat marked his third consecutive loss, dropping his professional record to 24-5 and igniting widespread speculation about his future in the sport. While the 35-year-old fighter has not announced a formal retirement, it is clear that he and his family are planning ahead.
The new venture, a multi-million dollar property development project valued at approximately $20 million (KSh 2.6 billion), is being spearheaded by Adesanya’s father, Oluwafemi Adesanya. Speaking on Instagram, the elder Adesanya highlighted the importance of investing in something tangible and meaningful, not only as a retirement plan but as a legacy-building tool. “After his fighting, Israel needs to have something solid. We chose property development so he can physically see and be involved in what he is building,” Oluwafemi said.
His hands-on leadership in the project has been a central factor in its success. Israel expressed deep gratitude toward his father, describing the initiative as more his father’s vision than his own. “I just funded it,” Adesanya admitted. “My dad is there every day, working closely with the people involved. He had the vision. This is for the whole family.”
The project, already in advanced stages of construction, has also been praised for its collaborative spirit. Oluwafemi and Israel made a point to thank all the workers, engineers, and designers who contributed to the development. During a recent gathering, Oluwafemi personally acknowledged their dedication: “You came up with good designs and gave your best effort. We have to honour you.”
Adesanya, who was named New Zealand Sportsman of the Year in 2019, emphasized the emotional and symbolic importance of the project. He called it not just a business move, but a family milestone. “Everyone who’s part of this is now part of our extended family,” he said.
While Adesanya’s fighting future remains uncertain, his transition into property development marks a powerful chapter of resilience, reinvention, and long-term thinking.
