Harambee Stars winger Job Ochieng continued his fine run of form in Spain as he registered an assist for Real Sociedad B, although his efforts were not enough to prevent his team from suffering a 5-2 defeat to Granada in a La Liga 2 encounter on Saturday night.
Ochieng, who recently made his debut for the Kenya national team against Gambia, has been one of Real Sociedad B’s most promising young players this season. The 21-year-old winger produced another energetic display in the first half, showing his creativity and attacking intent despite the team’s defensive struggles.
He played the opening 45 minutes, creating two key passes, completing one successful cross, and providing a big-chance assist. His clever play down the right flank led to Mikel Rodríguez’s goal for Sociedad, giving the visitors a glimmer of hope in what was otherwise a one-sided contest.
By the time Ochieng set up Rodríguez, Granada had already taken full control of the match with a ruthless attacking performance. The hosts scored five goals inside the opening half-hour, punishing Sociedad’s defensive lapses with clinical finishing. Granada’s Senegalese forward Faye opened the scoring just three minutes in and went on to complete a brace, while Alcaraz, Sola, and Oscar each found the back of the net in a dominant first half.
Trailing 5-1 at the break, Real Sociedad B showed more fight in the second period. Manager Aitor Ansotegi made tactical changes that allowed his side to press higher and retain more possession. Their improved approach paid off when Rodríguez scored his second goal to reduce the deficit, but Granada managed the remainder of the match well to secure back-to-back victories for the first time this season.
The result saw Granada climb off the bottom of the La Liga Hypermotion table, while Sociedad B slipped to last place, struggling to find consistency in a challenging campaign.
For Ochieng, the match was another reminder of his growing influence at club level. The Kenyan youngster has now scored once and provided two assists this season, underlining his potential as one of the most exciting prospects abroad. Despite the heavy defeat, his contribution stood out as a rare positive in an otherwise disappointing night for Real Sociedad B.
