New Al Nassr head coach Jorge Jesus has strongly criticized Portugal for not fully appreciating Cristiano Ronaldo, despite the forward’s immense contributions to the national team and global football. In a recent interview, Jesus expressed disappointment at the way Ronaldo is treated in his home country, emphasizing that his legacy goes far beyond his football achievements.
“Ronaldo is different even biologically which is why he’s still playing at 40,” Jesus said, praising the veteran forward’s longevity and influence. According to him, Ronaldo remains not just a football legend but a symbol of global celebrity and resilience. “He’s the biggest human reference point in the world. We don’t appreciate him enough in Portugal. He transcends the world of football.”

The coach, who recently took over the reins at the Saudi Pro League club, drew personal parallels with Ronaldo, highlighting that both continue to defy expectations at an advanced age. “I’m 70, but I don’t feel it mentally or physically. We both think similarly outside of football.”
Jesus also opened up about his humble beginnings and the role his family played in shaping his career. He recalled how his father worked tirelessly even when sick, and how he himself joined Sporting’s youth academy at 17, earning more than his father and handing the money to his mother. “We weren’t wealthy, but my father taught us important life principles,” he said emotionally.

Looking back on his coaching journey, Jesus named his time at Brazilian club Flamengo as the most memorable chapter of his career. He led the team to five titles, including the prestigious Copa Libertadores and Recopa Sudamericana, reigniting the passion of a fanbase of over 50 million. “Flamengo was the most beautiful moment. Seventy thousand fans chanting ‘olé, olé, mister’ I still watch those recordings.”
Now at Al Nassr, where he coaches Ronaldo and other stars, Jesus remains as passionate as ever about the game. His unwavering admiration for Ronaldo speaks volumes about the respect he believes true legends deserve especially during the twilight of their careers. As Ronaldo continues to play at the highest level, Jesus’s words are a powerful reminder of the value of honoring greatness while it still shines.
