Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums are set to take centre stage as Kenya prepares to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), sharing hosting rights with neighbours Uganda and Tanzania. From August 2 to 30, these two iconic venues will welcome the continent for a tournament that not only showcases football but reflects Kenya’s cultural pride and infrastructural readiness.
The refurbished Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums symbolize more than sporting arenas they represent national pride, historical legacy, and Kenya’s readiness to step onto the continental stage as a sports host. Kasarani, originally opened in 1987 for the All Africa Games, was designed to reflect the warmth and unity of Africa. With a 60,000-seat capacity, it will host all of Kenya’s Group A matches, including high-profile clashes against DR Congo, Angola, Morocco, and Zambia.

Nyayo Stadium, opened in 1983, has been a landmark of unity, named after the “Nyayo” philosophy of love, peace, and unity. With a capacity of 30,000, it will stage additional Group A fixtures and the grand final, positioning itself as a key venue in delivering a memorable tournament.

Ahead of CHAN 2024, both stadiums received comprehensive upgrades. The pitches were reconstructed to meet CAF’s top-tier Category Four standards, with improved drainage, new sprinkler systems, and regulation-compliant dimensions. Modern floodlighting at 1200 lux, advanced backup power systems, and LED advertising infrastructure have also been installed.

Facilities for players and officials now feature ventilated, well-equipped dressing rooms with showers, massage tables, lockers, and tactical boards. Seating has been redesigned to include regular, VIP, and VVIP options, with enhanced spectator experience in mind. The introduction of VAR and goal-line technology aligns Kenya with global football standards for the first time.
As the slogan “Africa Is Coming Home – Let’s Show Up for It” echoes nationwide, the spirit of Harambee calls on every Kenyan to rally behind the Harambee Stars. With tickets priced affordably, the nation has the opportunity to fill the stands, make history, and show Africa the vibrancy of Kenyan football culture.

With world-class infrastructure and a warm welcome awaiting visitors, CHAN 2024 is more than a tournament it’s a celebration of Kenya’s transformation and ambition on the continental stage.
