Kenyan international midfielder Kenneth Muguna has sealed a big move abroad after securing a transfer to Botswana’s most successful football club, Township Rollers. The move comes shortly after his departure from Kenya Police, where he played a key role in guiding the law enforcers to an unexpected FKF Premier League title last season.
Muguna, 29, had completed his two-year contract with Police and opted not to renew, seeking a fresh challenge outside the country. His decision has now landed him in Botswana, where he is set to don the famous blue jersey of Township Rollers, a club nicknamed Popa, The Blues, or Tse Tala. The midfielder is expected to link up with his new teammates once he secures his work permit, marking the beginning of yet another exciting chapter in his career.
Township Rollers, based in the capital city Gaborone, boast a record 16 league titles. However, they have endured a period of struggle in recent years, finishing sixth last season. Their last league triumph came in the 2018/19 campaign, with Jwaneng Galaxy and Gaborone United having since dominated the domestic scene. The arrival of Muguna is seen as a major boost to the squad as they aim to reclaim their place at the summit of Botswana football.
This move represents Muguna’s third stint abroad. He previously featured for Albanian side FK Tirana in 2018 before heading to Tanzanian giants Azam FC, where he played between 2021 and 2023. His time at Gor Mahia and Kenya Police has also been marked with success, having lifted the FKF Premier League title four times three with Gor Mahia and once with Police.
Muguna’s leadership qualities, passing range, and experience in both domestic and continental competitions make him a valuable addition to Township Rollers. At 29, he still has several peak years ahead, and the Botswana side will be banking on his influence to revive their fortunes and return to the top.
