Kenya Police FC captain David “Cheche” Ochieng has expressed confidence that his side is well-positioned to achieve even greater success in the 2025/2026 season following their opening 0-0 draw against Ulinzi Stars. The defending champions began their FKF Premier League campaign shortly after qualifying for the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, marking the start of what promises to be a demanding season on multiple fronts.
Cheche, who returned from an eight-week injury layoff, produced a solid defensive performance to help his side earn a clean sheet in the hard-fought stalemate. The experienced defender admitted that while he felt a bit fatigued toward the end of the match, he was satisfied with his contribution in ensuring a strong defensive start to the new campaign.
The veteran, who has represented the Harambee Stars over 30 times, believes Kenya Police have the right squad depth and mentality to retain their league crown. “We have to go for the league,” said the skipper. “We know what it takes to be champions, and we believe in ourselves. Winning it again would be the perfect reward for everyone at the club.”
Cheche identified two crucial objectives that would define success for Kenya Police this season — retaining their Premier League title and reaching the group stages of the CAF Champions League. No Kenyan team has ever made it that far in the continental competition, and the captain sees this as a realistic and inspiring target. “Reaching the group stages of the Champions League and then retaining the league would be the ideal season,” he emphasized.
Beyond ambition, Cheche praised the team’s impressive depth and internal competition, noting that the squad’s size and balance will be key to maintaining consistency across all competitions. With around 30 players available for selection, the coach has been rotating the team effectively to manage fatigue and maintain performance levels.
The captain also hailed goalkeeper Job Ochieng, last season’s Golden Glove winner, for his vital saves that secured the clean sheet against Ulinzi Stars. “He was outstanding. That’s the beauty of competition — when you’re called upon, you deliver,” Cheche remarked.
With renewed motivation, squad depth, and leadership, Kenya Police are determined to defend their title while making history on the continental stage.
