It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Harambee Stars players featuring across the English football leagues, with some making impressive contributions while others endured quieter outings.
Vyner Shines in Bristol City Win
Defender Zak Vyner stood out as Bristol City claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. Lining up on the right side of a back three, Vyner produced a commanding display marked by eight clearances, two tackles, one blocked shot, and solid duel success both on the ground and in the air. His assured performance was capped with an 83 percent pass accuracy, underscoring his reliability at the back.
The Robins had the job done by halftime after goals from Emil Riis, Anis Mehmeti, and an unfortunate Harry Amass own goal put them in control. The win lifted Bristol City into third place in the Championship table with 11 points, keeping their promotion ambitions alive after last season’s near miss in the playoffs. Vyner’s form continues to strengthen his case as a key figure for Kenya’s national team.
Oduor Plays in Dramatic Grimsby Draw
In League Two, Clarke Oduor came off the bench to help Grimsby Town earn a last-gasp 1-1 draw against Cambridge United. The Mariners trailed to a first-half goal from Adam Mayor, but deep into stoppage time, Justin Amaluzor struck home the rebound after Jaze Kabia’s penalty was saved. Oduor’s energy after coming on gave Grimsby extra attacking impetus as they pushed for the equaliser.
Quiet Outings for Harper and Onyango
Elsewhere, Vincent Harper was left out of Walsall’s squad as they played to a 1-1 draw against Fleetwood Town in League One. Fleetwood went ahead through Ryan Graydon’s header, before Daniel Kanu levelled midway through the first half.
Midfielder Tyler Onyango, currently on loan at Stockport County from Everton, also missed out on action as his side shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Cardiff City. Stockport looked set for defeat after Oliver Norwood converted a first-half penalty for Cardiff, but Yousef Salech grabbed a late equaliser to deny them all three points.
Mixed Bag for Kenyan Stars
Overall, it was a weekend of highs and lows for Kenyan players in England. Vyner’s commanding display was the highlight, while Oduor showed his value with a lively cameo. However, Harper and Onyango will be hoping for more minutes when the action resumes next weekend.
