The Kenya Rugby Union’s (KRU) 2025 National Rugby 7s Circuit has received a major financial injection, bringing renewed energy and optimism to the local rugby scene. A KSh15 million sponsorship deal from SportPesa has officially cemented the betting firm as the title sponsor, with the competition now rebranded as the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit.
This significant funding comes at a critical time for KRU as it intensifies efforts to elevate Kenya’s men’s and women’s teams to HSBC Tier 1 status in 2026. The investment is set to play a vital role in the national teams’ preparation and performance on both continental and global stages.
The funding has been strategically divided to ensure optimal impact across the tournament. A notable KSh3 million will be allocated to the six host clubs, bolstering their organizational capabilities and ensuring high-quality events. KSh6 million has been earmarked for the live streaming of matches, enhancing access for fans across Kenya and beyond. Another KSh2.3 million will go towards prize money for winners in Division One, Division Two, and the women’s category ensuring fierce and motivated competition at every level.
KSh3 million will be used to support administrative operations, ensuring smooth execution across all tournament legs. Additionally, KSh700,000 has been dedicated to the production of team merchandise, enhancing team identity and fan engagement.
In parallel, Tusker reaffirmed its commitment as the entertainment and beverage partner, vowing to deliver memorable fan experiences through music, sport, and responsible enjoyment. This blend of corporate partnerships aims to elevate the fan experience and strengthen the rugby community.
The SportPesa National Sevens Circuit has proven instrumental in talent development, with many of its standout players progressing to the national Shujaa squad. The team’s recent success including their Africa 7s title and Olympic qualification is a testament to the circuit’s significance.
The 2025 edition begins with the Driftwood 7s in Mombasa on July 26–27 and will climax with the Dala 7s in Kisumu on September 13–14. With elevated stakes, robust sponsorship, and a deep pool of talent, this year’s circuit is poised to be one of the most exciting yet, as Kenya aims to reclaim its place among the global rugby elite.
