Kylian Mbappe has shared his thoughts on Real Madrid’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, highlighting the qualities that make him stand out as a coach. The French forward, who is considered central to the new project at the Santiago Bernabeu, explained how Alonso’s arrival has already left a big impression in the dressing room.
Appointed in May 2025 on a three-year deal, Alonso stepped in as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor after achieving historic success at Bayer Leverkusen, where he guided the German side to an unbeaten season and a league and cup double. For Real Madrid fans, his return marked not only the beginning of a new chapter but also a homecoming for a midfielder who played a key role in the club’s famous ‘Décima’ Champions League triumph between 2009 and 2014.
Mbappe described Alonso as a coach with a strong desire to succeed, someone who knows Real Madrid inside and out because of his playing past. The forward explained that the squad is working hard to adapt to Alonso’s tactical ideas and game plan. He acknowledged that their strong start to the season with three consecutive wins is positive, but the focus remains on improving and taking things step by step.

“The goal is always to win titles,” Mbappe stressed, while noting that the long campaign requires patience and consistency. He also reflected on last season’s struggles, saying the team has learned valuable lessons and must now prove they can perform better.
With the World Cup approaching, Mbappe admitted that this season holds extra importance not just for the club but also for players aiming to secure a place on the biggest stage. He reaffirmed his belief that Real Madrid are always among the favourites for the Champions League, though he acknowledged the growing competition across Europe.
Looking back at his career, Mbappe revealed that several Bundesliga clubs, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, had previously tried to sign him before he chose Real Madrid. However, he made it clear that his focus is firmly on success with Los Blancos.
Concluding, Mbappe praised Alonso’s clarity and demanding nature, saying he admired the coach’s hunger for success. He pointed out that even though Alonso is a young coach, he has already brought improvements in their style of play, particularly with the ball. For Mbappe, this new project at Real Madrid is all about building towards titles and continuing the club’s tradition of excellence.
