Laura Robson is in advanced discussions to front TNT Sports’ live coverage of the upcoming Ashes in Australia, marking a significant step in her broadcasting career.
The former Wimbledon junior champion and Olympic silver medallist retired from professional tennis three years ago due to persistent wrist and hip injuries. Since then, she has forged a strong reputation as a sports pundit, appearing regularly with TNT and Sky Sports. However, her involvement in this winter’s Ashes would be her first high-profile television assignment outside the world of tennis.
TNT Sports has reportedly offered Robson an on-the-ground role, providing live reports from Australia during the five-match series. While the main commentary and studio analysis will be anchored in Europe, Robson’s presence at the venues is expected to add colour, atmosphere, and first-hand insights from the heart of the action.
Born in Melbourne to Australian parents before moving to England at the age of six, Robson brings a personal connection to the host country that could enrich her storytelling during the tour. Her growing broadcasting experience also includes recent work as a courtside reporter at the US Open, where she was live on air during high-profile moments.
In addition to her television roles, Robson has taken on leadership positions within tennis administration. She served as tournament director for the Nottingham WTA 250 event for two years before moving to Queen’s Club this year, overseeing the return of women’s professional tennis to the iconic London venue after more than half a century.
TNT Sports plans to combine Robson’s live reporting with local commentary feeds and studio analysis from former England captain Alastair Cook, who is expected to feature as a lead pundit. Presenter Kate Mason is set to front the studio coverage.
The broadcaster has secured rights to all of England’s winter tours, including the Ashes, as well as white-ball series in New Zealand and Sri Lanka. This will be the third consecutive Ashes tour shown live by TNT Sports or its predecessor.
If finalised, Robson’s role will mark a breakthrough moment in her media career, showcasing her versatility beyond tennis and placing her at the centre of one of cricket’s most iconic rivalries.
