Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is preparing for Saturday’s crucial Premier League fixture against Brentford, with a sense of uncertainty surrounding his side’s performance. The Red Devils are coming off a much-needed 2-1 victory over Chelsea last week, but Amorim admits that he is unsure what to expect from his inconsistent team.
United sit 11th in the Premier League table, and while the Chelsea win provided some relief, it has done little to settle the ongoing questions surrounding Amorim’s reign. The manager acknowledged that his team’s performances have been far from consistent, which has created a sense of unpredictability heading into the match against Brentford.
“It’s really important for us to have that sense of urgency that we need to win, no matter what,” said Amorim in his pre-match press conference. He emphasized the importance of starting matches with intensity, referring to United’s strong starts against Chelsea, Burnley, and Arsenal as examples to follow.
Despite the positive results, Amorim has struggled to find consistent form for the team throughout his 10-month tenure. “We’ve been inconsistent for so many months,” he admitted. “It’s normal for the fans not to know what’s going to happen next. To be completely honest, I have an idea, but I don’t know how it’s going to be.”
The manager’s words reflect the tense atmosphere around the club as supporters grow anxious about the team’s future. Amorim is determined to make each game feel like the “last one,” in an attempt to instill a sense of urgency and focus within the squad.
One bright spot for United has been Bryan Mbeumo, who has impressed since joining from Brentford in the summer. Amorim praised Mbeumo for his work ethic and ability to lift the mood within the dressing room. “He brings light to the dressing room. He is not the guy that talks more, but you can feel it that he’s always there to help us,” said Amorim. “He runs a lot, presses a lot, and is a different threat compared to last season.”
However, United will be without winger Amad Diallo for this match after the player was granted time off following a family bereavement. Despite the challenges, Amorim is focused on building momentum and keeping his side’s title aspirations alive in what is expected to be a tough encounter at Brentford.
