Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo by submitting a second, improved offer in a bid to fend off competition from rival Premier League clubs. The club is eager to reinforce its attacking options ahead of the new season and is moving swiftly to secure top targets under new manager Ruben Amorim.
United’s interest in Mbeumo comes after they secured the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5 million. However, the Red Devils are not done yet, with Amorim keen on reshaping the frontline, particularly amid expected departures of key forwards. Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho are all reportedly on the way out, prompting United to focus on bringing in players who align with Amorim’s tactical vision.
An earlier bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons for Mbeumo was rejected by Brentford, pushing United to reassess their strategy. The latest offer, submitted over the weekend, is said to be in excess of £60 million, with ongoing negotiations aimed at reaching a compromise acceptable to both parties.
Bryan Mbeumo has emerged as a priority signing for United. The Cameroon international has consistently impressed at Brentford, where his pace, creativity, and finishing have made him a standout performer. His ability to play across the front line also fits seamlessly into Amorim’s fluid attacking system.
What strengthens United’s position in the race is the player’s reported preference for a move to Old Trafford. Mbeumo is said to be enthusiastic about the opportunity and personal terms are believed to be a formality. This gives United a crucial edge over their main competitors, notably Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham’s new manager Thomas Frank, formerly at Brentford, is also interested in reuniting with Mbeumo. The two shared a successful partnership at the London club since Mbeumo’s arrival from French side Troyes in 2019. Frank is keen to bring trusted players into his new project at Spurs and sees Mbeumo as a key part of that plan.
Despite this, Mbeumo reportedly favours a move to Manchester United, drawn by the club’s stature, their clear interest in him, and the promise of a central role in Amorim’s rebuild. With United looking to wrap up deals before pre-season begins on July 7, Mbeumo could become their second major signing of the summer.
