Manchester United have suffered a setback in their pursuit of a new goalkeeper after their loan offer for a proven Premier League shot-stopper was rejected. The club had approached Aston Villa in a bid to secure the services of Emiliano Martinez on loan, but the Midlands side turned down the offer, signalling their intent to keep hold of the Argentine international.
United are actively seeking reinforcements between the posts following an inconsistent season for Andre Onana. The Cameroon international endured a challenging debut campaign, prompting the club to explore options to strengthen the goalkeeping department ahead of the new season.

Martinez, 32, has been in outstanding form for both Aston Villa and the Argentina national team. His performances have attracted interest from top European clubs, and he was reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford. However, with four years still left on his current contract, Villa are under no pressure to sell and are standing firm in their stance that Martinez is not available on loan or otherwise.
As internal discussions continue at United, the club is weighing the pros and cons of recruiting an experienced player like Martinez versus investing in younger talent. One such name on their radar is Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens. The 23-year-old has emerged as a regular starter for Royal Antwerp and recently earned his first senior international cap. Lammens, who has two years remaining on his contract, represents a long-term solution if United decide to pursue a younger profile.

In addition to seeking a new goalkeeper, United are also keeping an eye on attacking reinforcements. During talks with Aston Villa about Martinez, they enquired about striker Ollie Watkins. Although the club has already added Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer, there is still a desire to further bolster the frontline. However, Villa have reiterated their determination to retain Watkins for the upcoming campaign.
Elsewhere, United have also been linked with RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko as a potential attacking option. Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak was considered, but his high price tag has ruled out any further interest at this stage.
With key transfer targets proving difficult to acquire, United face an uphill task in reshaping their squad before the transfer window closes.
