Sigona Golf Club hosted the 16th leg of the 2024 NCBA Golf Series this past weekend, drawing an impressive field of 260 golfers despite the chilly weather. The event delivered exciting competition, with top honors going to Jayvir Matharu and Grace Gichigi.
Matharu, playing off handicap 2, showcased elite skill to emerge as the Overall Gross Winner (Men) with a remarkable score of 72 gross. Gichigi, playing off handicap 7, clinched the Overall Lady Gross Winner trophy with a solid 86 gross, rounding off a strong showing in a highly competitive field.
The event saw players battle across different handicap categories for top honors and a coveted ticket to the series’ Grand Finale, set for November at Muthaiga Golf Club.
In Division One (handicaps 5–12), Saahil Shah (handicap 10) delivered a standout performance, scoring 40 stableford points to claim the top spot. Shah also demonstrated power off the tee, securing the Longest Drive award among the men.
Division Two (handicaps 13–24) was dominated by Milan Varsani (handicap 18), who carded 42 points, while Jane Njau (handicap 14) led the ladies with 33 points. Njau also walked away with the Longest Drive title for the ladies, underlining her consistency and power throughout the day.
The Division Three title (handicap 25 and above) went to Bharat Lakhani, who posted the highest stableford score of the day with 43 points. Among guest players, Tonny Tugee (handicap 12) impressed with a solid 38 points.
Accuracy was also celebrated, with William Moturi and Mukami Wachira winning the Nearest to the Pin prizes in the men’s and ladies’ categories respectively.
Speaking during the award ceremony, NCBA Bank’s ABC Place Branch Manager, Rose Mburu, praised the participants and reaffirmed the bank’s support for golf development.
“This year, we’ve committed over KES 60 million towards golf, aiming to support players of all levels and expand the game across East Africa,” she said.
The NCBA Golf Series now heads to Rwanda on July 13, followed by the Mombasa Golf Club leg on July 22, as the road to the Grand Finale intensifies.
