Mohammed Bajaber has opened up about the profound connection he shares with coach Nicholas Muyoti, a relationship that goes beyond the typical player-coach dynamic. In a heartfelt revelation, the Harambee Stars forward disclosed that he once played through an injury during a crucial match just to help Muyoti keep his job.
Bajaber’s football journey began when he graduated from Starfield Academy in Parklands and earned a life-changing opportunity to play in the FKF Premier League, thanks to Muyoti, who was then head coach of Nairobi City Stars. Despite being fresh and inexperienced at that level, Muyoti believed in Bajaber’s potential and gave him his debut against Tusker in May 2022. By June, he had earned a starting place against AFC Leopards, and in March, he scored his maiden league goal against Muhoroni Youth.

The young forward would go on to score six more goals for Nairobi City Stars in the 2023–24 season. However, Bajaber’s start in the top flight was far from smooth. He suffered a series of injuries early on, sidelining him for extended periods. One of the most defining moments of his career came during this challenging time when he made a bold decision out of loyalty and gratitude.
Bajaber recalled a critical match against Sofapaka, a time when there were growing rumours that Muyoti’s job was hanging in the balance. Even though he had not fully recovered and had not trained with the team, he insisted on playing. Just five minutes into the match, he aggravated his hamstring injury. Despite the pain, he played until the 75th minute, helping the team secure a vital 2-1 win. Although he worsened his injury and had to spend more time out, Bajaber said he had no regrets, as his actions helped stave off a looming dismissal for Muyoti at least temporarily.

The bond between the two remains strong. Bajaber described Muyoti as a father figure and one of the most influential people in his life, crediting him for launching his professional career. He expressed pride in Muyoti’s achievements with Nairobi United, where he led the club to National Super League promotion and an FKF Cup title.
