Boniface Muchiri has issued a bold warning to Kenya’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) opponents, declaring that Harambee Stars are fully prepared to challenge for the title. The Ulinzi Stars forward, currently part of the provisional CHAN squad, expressed unwavering belief in the team’s ability to perform and reach the tournament final.
Kenya has been drawn into a competitive Group A alongside Morocco, DR Congo, Angola, and Zambia. Despite the stiff competition, Muchiri is optimistic, asserting that Harambee Stars can silence their high-profile rivals and make a deep run in the tournament, which is set to be staged at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.
The forward’s confidence is fueled by the intense and structured training sessions being led by head coach Benni McCarthy. He noted that the team is in excellent physical and mental shape, and that the atmosphere in camp is positive, with every player showing great determination and focus. According to Muchiri, the level of commitment shown during training has been unmatched, and the players are feeding off the energy and motivation from the technical bench.
As part of their CHAN preparations, Harambee Stars will participate in the CECAFA Four Nations Cup from July 24 to 27, where they will face regional rivals Tanzania, Uganda, and South Sudan. These matches, to be played at the Karatu Stadium in Tanzania, will offer Kenya a final test before the main tournament begins.
Muchiri emphasized that modern football has no underdogs and that every match must be approached with the utmost seriousness. He challenged his teammates to believe in themselves and strive to leave a legacy, highlighting that their performance will reflect the pride and passion of representing Kenya on home soil.
He also dismissed any notion of pressure, instead focusing on the collective goal and the importance of adhering to the coach’s instructions. For him, the squad’s calm confidence stems from the strong foundation laid during training and the belief that they are on the verge of achieving something special.
With the CHAN tournament rapidly approaching, Muchiri remains one of the key figures expected to inspire the team. His leadership and ambition could prove vital as Harambee Stars look to make history and claim continental glory in front of their home fans.
