Musingu High School began their 2025 KSSSA Term Two national football campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Moi High School Mbiruri 5-1 in a thrilling Group A encounter. The match, held at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County, saw the Western region champions take full advantage of their home support to dismantle the national debutants from the Eastern region.
From the first whistle, Musingu showed their intent, attacking with pace and purpose. The early pressure paid off in the 22nd minute when Kevin Manan opened the scoring to ignite the lively home crowd. Although Mbiruri responded with a well-worked equalizer from Devon Odhiambo in the 30th minute, their hopes were quickly dashed as Austin Oluoch restored Musingu’s lead just two minutes later.
By halftime, the Scorpions had widened the gap. Star forward Marvin Ashiundu netted the third goal in the 36th minute, showcasing his finishing ability as Musingu went into the break with a comfortable 3-1 lead.
The second half was a continuation of Musingu’s dominance. Ashiundu completed his brace in the 65th minute, reinforcing his status as one of the tournament’s top attacking talents. Substitute Shaban Quimba capped off the rout with a clinical strike in the 78th minute, sealing a statement 5-1 win that sent a warning to their rivals.
Despite flashes of quality, Mbiruri were ultimately outclassed but will hope to bounce back in their remaining group matches.
Elsewhere in Group A, Agai Mixed Secondary School made a huge impression with a 9-1 demolition of Garissa High School. Brian Peter was the standout performer with a hat-trick, while Moses Otieno, Abdul Owino, and Rodgers Onyango each scored twice in a dominant team display.
In Group B, defending champions Highway Secondary suffered a shock 1-3 defeat at the hands of St Joseph’s High School Kitale. Goals from Collins Mwalati and a brace from Instine Simiyu saw St Joseph’s take control, leaving Highway in a precarious position early in the tournament.
With the group stage heating up, attention now turns to the second round of fixtures as teams look to solidify their semifinal ambitions.
