Harambee Stars hopeful Clement Mutahi Bischoff has made a bold career move, joining Austrian Bundesliga side RB Salzburg, despite interest from Premier League clubs like Wolves and Sunderland. The 21-year-old, who has both Kenyan and Danish roots, follows fellow Kenyan Ryan Ogam, now at Wolfsberger AC, in pursuing opportunities in Austria.
Bischoff revealed that his September transfer came after a challenging period at Danish side Brøndby, which was intensified by a collapsed move to Brighton last winter. “It all happened very quickly,” he said. “I arrived at the Denmark U21 camp on deadline day, wondering if something might happen. And then it did.”
The hectic final day of the transfer window involved traveling from Copenhagen to Munich, with little rest. Despite the rush, Bischoff remained cautious about celebrating until the move was officially completed. “I’ve learned that nothing is certain until it’s on paper. I still reported for national duty in case it fell through, so I could be with the guys,” he explained.
Bischoff’s decision to join Salzburg over Wolves and Sunderland was influenced by his need for a fresh challenge. “It was the right move for me now. I needed to try something different. Although I hoped to achieve more with Brøndby, it just wasn’t the right fit anymore,” he admitted. The midfielder also noted that his playing style did not always suit Brøndby’s system, and he often found himself on the bench.
Since joining RB Salzburg, Bischoff has already made an impact, appearing in five league games with one goal and two assists, along with two Europa League appearances. His early performances suggest a bright future in European football.
The move to Austria is not just about club football; it also sets the stage for a potential dual-nationality tug-of-war, with both Denmark and Kenya likely to vie for his international allegiance. For now, Bischoff is focused on settling in Austria and testing himself at a higher level.
With his career trajectory on the rise, the move to RB Salzburg could mark the start of a defining chapter for the young midfielder, both in club and international football
