Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu sparked unforgettable scenes across Nairobi as he personally delivered the Premier League Trophy to unsuspecting fans. The Nigerian football icon, part of the global EPL Trophy Tour in partnership with Guinness, turned ordinary moments into dreams come true for passionate Kenyan supporters.
Among the lucky recipients was Daniel Nzuki from Ruaka, Kiambu County, who could hardly believe it when Kanu appeared at his door holding the iconic 24-karat silver gilt trophy. Despite being a Manchester City supporter, Nzuki described the moment as surreal — a memory that transcended club rivalry.
In Waiyaki Way, Ann Njoroge, a lifelong Manchester United fan, shared a similar sentiment. The sight of the Arsenal great standing at her doorstep erased traditional football boundaries. For her, meeting Kanu and holding the trophy was “a moment beyond club colours.”
The excitement continued in Kasarani, where Arsenal supporter Denis Njau was overcome with emotion upon seeing his childhood hero. “You open your door and see the man who scored hat-tricks against Chelsea standing there with the EPL trophy. It felt unreal,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Karen, Robert Kimani and his friends celebrated with joyful chants as Kanu posed for selfies, capturing a moment that symbolized unity through sport.
Kanu, who lifted the Premier League twice with Arsenal — including during the historic 2003-04 “Invincibles” season — expressed how deeply meaningful the experience was. “Bringing the cup home to Africa means a lot. Everyone wants to see it, touch it, and feel that connection,” he said.
He praised the passion of Kenyan football fans, noting their energy and devotion to the game. Beyond the celebrations, Kanu used the platform to motivate young people, emphasizing hard work and perseverance as keys to success.
The 2025 African leg of the EPL Trophy Tour, which also includes stops in Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa, left a lasting impression on Nairobi. The visit proved that football’s emotional power goes beyond club loyalties — uniting fans under one shared love for the beautiful game
