The formidable four-ball team of Enock Ogembo, Eleanor Wambui, John Kibet, and M.M. Macharia emerged victorious at the latest leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour held on Saturday at the par-73 Nakuru Golf Club. The quartet posted a combined score of 114 stableford points, clinching the top team prize in a tournament that attracted 228 players from across the region.
Their closest rivals, the team comprising Stephen Macharia, Micah Thuo, Javan Muriithi, and William Kariuki, settled for second place with a commendable score of 111 points. The stiff competition marked one of the most thrilling showdowns of the ongoing regional golf tour.
Ogembo, elated by the victory, praised his team’s efforts and consistent preparation. “I am very happy for this win. We’ve been practicing for today’s tournament. I have a solid team and tomorrow we’re heading to another event to sharpen our skills. We will bring the cup home at the tour’s grand finale,” he said during the prize-giving ceremony.
In the individual categories, Stephen Ibwaga stood out with a brilliant 44 points off handicap 28, securing the overall winner’s prize. Francis Wanjohi, playing off handicap 19, won the men’s category with 41 points. In the ladies’ category, Eleanor Wambui, also part of the winning team, registered 38 points to claim the top spot.
Other notable winners included Ibrahim Lande, who topped the staff category with 39 points, and Cassius Pennington, who secured the juniors’ title with 43 points. William Kariuki of Njoro Golf Club won the guest prize with 41 points, while Dr. Terra Saidimu and Florence Wafula won the men’s and ladies’ longest drive contests, respectively.
The weekend also featured a juniors’ golf clinic aimed at nurturing budding talent and a tree-planting initiative to promote environmental sustainability. On Monday, July 14, KCB will host over 100 caddies at Nakuru Golf Club as part of its inclusive approach to the regional golf tour.
