Peter Nuthu emerged as the overall winner at the Lady Captain’s Swing tournament held at the Ruiru Golf Club, showcasing resilience and precision to top a field of 200 golfers with 37 stableford points. Playing off a handicap of 19, Nuthu outclassed his rivals in a tightly contested competition, marking a significant achievement in his golfing journey.
Hot on his heels was handicap 15 golfer Patrick Kimanga, who finished second overall with 35 points after a valiant effort to challenge the leader. Matching Kimanga’s score, John Baptista also posted 35 points but was relegated to the men’s runner-up spot following a countback decision.
Reflecting on his performance during the prize-giving ceremony, Peter Nuthu expressed gratitude and humility, attributing his win to persistence and dedication. “It is a great feeling to come out on top in such a competitive field. Golf teaches you patience, resilience, and belief, and today, it all came together. I dedicate this win to every golfer out there chasing consistency and excellence,” he remarked, offering inspiration to fellow players.
The tournament also celebrated outstanding performances in the ladies’ category. Beth Ngugi, playing off a handicap of 29, emerged victorious with a solid 35 points, narrowly beating Esther Kimani, a handicap 35 player, who finished second with 34 points. Senior Lady Captain Edith Ngugi had the honour of awarding the top ladies during the ceremony.
The event featured various other winners across categories. In the First Nine, Paul Kungu (handicap 12) claimed the top spot with 19 points, while Erastus Thoronjo (handicap 10) mirrored that performance in the Second Nine. Among the ladies, Pauline Mungai (handicap 17) took the First Nine Ladies’ prize, also with 19 points.
The guest category saw a strong showing from Peris Mwangi (handicap 35), who posted 36 points to take the top prize. In the juniors’ section, Wilson Mwangi (handicap 9) scored 29 points to emerge as the best performer, while Susan Gachina (handicap 39) led the division category with 18 points.
Looking ahead, Ruiru Sports Club is set to host a Club Nite on Thursday, July 17, acting as a warm-up event for the much-anticipated Accountants Golf Tournament slated for Saturday, July 19. The upcoming events promise more thrilling action on the picturesque Ruiru course.
