Ghanaian authorities have initiated an investigation into the suspicious and tragic death of 20-year-old Senegalese footballer, Cheith Toure, in Kumasi, Ashanti Region. The case came to light when an individual, identified as Issah, transported Toure’s body to the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo-Kumasi, claiming that the footballer had suffered an accident. However, medical staff at the Manhyia Government Hospital, where Toure was taken on October 16, 2025, noted that he had already passed away upon arrival and had visible abdominal injuries. Issah’s version of events has since raised alarm, with authorities questioning the truth behind his story.
In response, the Ghana Police Service has classified Toure’s death as “unnatural” and is conducting a detailed investigation. The police have deployed a specialized team, including homicide investigators, forensic experts, and intelligence officers, to assist the Ashanti Region Police Command in uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the death. The police are focusing on inconsistencies in the account given by Issah, who had previously claimed that Toure had been involved in an accident, a narrative that has not matched the severity of the injuries.
The Senegalese government has also taken a keen interest in the case, with the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs voicing concern over the possibility that Toure may have fallen victim to a network of extortion and scams. The Senegalese Embassy in Accra confirmed the discovery of Toure’s body and has sent representatives to Kumasi to support the investigation. They are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure that justice is served.
Authorities have reassured the public that the investigation is ongoing and that efforts are being made to identify and apprehend those responsible for Toure’s death. In the meantime, preparations are underway to repatriate the footballer’s remains to his family once all legal procedures have been completed.
