Paris Saint-Germain made an emphatic start to their Club World Cup campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Atlético Madrid at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The Champions League winners looked sharp from the outset, taking the lead in the 19th minute through Fabián Ruiz, who scored with a long-range effort.
PSG doubled their advantage just before the break when a missed opportunity from Antoine Griezmann sparked a swift counter-attack, culminating in Vitinha finishing calmly under the California sun. Despite a glimmer of hope for Atlético when Julián Alvarez found the net in the 57th minute, VAR overturned the goal due to a foul by Koke on Désiré Doué in the buildup.
Any remaining hope for a comeback from the Spanish side was extinguished in the closing minutes. Substitute Senny Mayulu scored in the 87th minute, and Lee Kang-in added a stoppage-time penalty to seal the dominant win. Atlético’s misery was compounded by the dismissal of Clément Lenglet in the 78th minute, leaving them a man down for the final stretch.
In another lopsided encounter, Bayern Munich delivered a brutal 10-0 demolition of part-time New Zealand side Auckland City. Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the sixth minute, and Bayern never looked back. Thomas Müller, Coman, and Michael Olise each netted twice, while Jamal Musiala completed a hat-trick in just 17 minutes after coming off the bench. Making his return from a hamstring injury, Musiala scored in the 67th, converted a penalty in the 73rd, and added another goal in the 84th. Bayern ended the match with a staggering 17-1 advantage in shots on target.
Elsewhere, Palmeiras and Porto battled to a goalless draw in front of 46,275 spectators at MetLife Stadium. The Brazilian side enjoyed the better of possession and had more attempts on goal, finishing with 19 shots six of which were on target. Porto responded with 14 efforts and just two on target, but goalkeeper Claúdio Ramos stood firm, making four key saves.
Palmeiras nearly snatched a late winner in stoppage time, but Lucas Evangelista’s header was blocked and Raphael Veiga’s close-range effort missed the target. The match was a physical affair, with Palmeiras committing 21 fouls to Porto’s 12. Despite the draw, Palmeiras fans brought energy to the half-full stadium, waving flags and chanting throughout the contest.
Following this result and the earlier 0-0 draw between Inter Miami and Al Ahly, Group A remains evenly poised with all four teams level on points. Palmeiras next face Al Ahly on Thursday in East Rutherford, while Porto take on Inter Miami in Atlanta on the same day.
