KCB FC has appointed veteran coach Robert Matano as the new head coach, signaling the start of a strategic rebuild aimed at restoring the club’s competitiveness ahead of the upcoming season. Matano takes over from Patrick Odhiambo, whose contract was not renewed following a disappointing campaign that saw KCB FC finish ninth in the league with 42 points.
Patrick Odhiambo had taken charge last July on a one-year contract, succeeding Bernard Mwalala, who had stepped down to focus on personal interests. However, under Odhiambo’s leadership, the team struggled to find consistent form, prompting the club to look elsewhere for fresh direction.
Robert Matano, a highly experienced coach with a celebrated track record in Kenyan football, returns to the local scene after a brief stint in Tanzania with Fountain Gate, where his tenure lasted just three months. Matano’s reputation precedes him, known for his winning mentality and his ability to guide teams to Kenya Premier League titles. Beyond his achievements at club level, he is also credited with nurturing several Kenyan internationals, contributing significantly to the growth of football talent in the country.
Alongside Matano, KCB FC has strengthened its technical bench with the appointment of John Njogu as Trainer, further emphasizing the club’s commitment to building a solid support system to complement the head coach’s vision.
At the unveiling ceremony held at Kencom, Nairobi, KCB FC patron Azu Ogolla expressed optimism about the club’s future under Matano’s leadership. Ogolla highlighted Matano’s impressive experience, leadership qualities, and championship pedigree as key assets that make him the ideal candidate to lead the team into a new era of success.
Matano himself expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge, stating that he was honored to join a club with immense potential, strong backing, and a clear vision for growth. He emphasized his goal of building a team that not only competes but also embodies the strength and ambition associated with the KCB brand.
The club’s management has already begun laying the groundwork for the upcoming FKF Premier League season by focusing on restructuring the playing squad and intensifying preparations. The strategic rebuild aims to enhance both the technical and playing units to ensure that KCB FC returns to being a formidable contender in Kenyan football.
With Robert Matano at the helm, expectations are high that KCB FC will regain its competitive edge and challenge for top honors in the near future. The club’s supporters are hopeful that this new chapter will bring renewed success and a stronger identity on the pitch.
