Ruben Amorim has brushed aside remarks made by Liverpool manager Arne Slot regarding Manchester United’s style of play during their recent 2-1 victory at Anfield. Slot had suggested that United relied heavily on a “low block” and “long balls,” but Amorim was quick to shut down any suggestion that his team’s approach was up for external evaluation.
“I don’t care what Slot is saying about our team,” Amorim stated. “We know where we need to improve, especially with the ball, but sometimes you must adapt to the situation. I can evaluate my own team, and I’m clear that we’ll play better in future matches.”
United’s win over Liverpool marked the first time the club had recorded back-to-back Premier League victories under Amorim’s management. The Portuguese tactician credited his players’ growing confidence and commitment for the improved results. “It’s about attitude,” he explained. “Sometimes, when the game gets tough, we have to push ourselves to do the basics right.”
Bruno Fernandes will celebrate a milestone 300th appearance for Manchester United when Brighton visit Old Trafford. Amorim praised several senior figures who help maintain high standards at the club, including Harry Maguire, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui, and Lisandro Martínez.
The United captain reflected on his journey since joining the club in 2020, revealing he turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal during the summer. “There are always talks, but I’ll only discuss my future after the World Cup,” Fernandes said.
Fernandes also highlighted the impact of summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, calling them “big characters” essential for handling the pressure of playing for United. He added that new arrivals Benjamin Sesko and goalkeeper Senne Lammens have also impressed since joining.
As United prepare to face a technically sharp Brighton side, Amorim stressed the need for consistency, urging his players to combine discipline with creativity to sustain their recent upturn in form.
