Ryan Ogam has quickly risen from promising Tusker forward to one of the brightest stars in Kenyan football. In just a few weeks, the striker has gone from debutant to national hero, scoring three goals in his first two FIFA-recognised games for the Harambee Stars.
Ogam found the net against both Gambia and Seychelles during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, including a brace in Kenya’s 5-0 win at Kasarani Stadium. Reflecting on the match against Seychelles, he explained that the team had deliberately targeted set pieces to exploit their physical advantage. His first goal came from a well-delivered free kick by Duke Abuya, showcasing both preparation and execution.
“It is a good feeling because I have now scored three goals in two games,” Ogam said after the win. “I hope it will help us in the next camp.”
The Harambee Stars face Burundi and Ivory Coast in October, and Ogam believes the team’s growing momentum will be vital as they push for maximum points on the road.
One of the most inspiring aspects of Ogam’s breakthrough has been the chance to line up alongside captain Michael Olunga. The youngster described playing with the established striker as a privilege, emphasizing how much he is learning from the national team leader.
“Playing with the captain is a good thing. He has achieved a lot in his career, so playing alongside him is a huge privilege. He is a good finisher and his positioning is elite. I am learning a lot from him, and maybe I will get where he is—or even more.”
As he prepares for a move to Austrian side Wolfsberger, Ogam sees the transfer as the next step in his journey. He hopes that excelling in Europe will not only elevate his career but also open the door to an even bigger stage in the future.
“Wolfsberger is a good team and I am focused on it. I will give my best like I did for Tusker and the national team,” he affirmed.
For Kenyan fans, Ogam’s rise offers a glimpse into an exciting new chapter. With his sharp finishing, growing confidence, and the mentorship of Olunga, the Harambee Stars may have found their next great striker.
