Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson has delivered a glowing verdict on the club’s summer signings, singling out Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens for his impressive start. Ferguson, who managed United to 38 trophies during his 26-year tenure, highlighted the young goalkeeper’s early impact and expressed optimism about the team’s ongoing development under Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils are enjoying a five-match unbeaten streak in the Premier League, demonstrating signs of recovery after a challenging previous season. This run includes a dramatic 2-2 draw against Tottenham and has positioned United seventh in a tightly contested table, just two points behind third-placed Chelsea.
Speaking publicly about the team for the first time in a while, Ferguson praised Lammens’ performances since his £21.7 million move from Royal Antwerp. “The goalkeeper has been outstanding,” Ferguson said. “He’s only played a few games, but he’s looking really good.”
Ferguson also acknowledged the contributions of new attacking signings, noting that additions from Wolves and Brentford have strengthened the squad. He emphasized the importance of consistent performances, adding, “I hope the manager gets a bit of success because at United you need to have success—the signs are getting better.”
Lammens, 23, remains unbeaten in his five appearances so far, keeping a clean sheet on his debut in a 2-0 victory over Sunderland and helping secure wins against Liverpool (2-1) and Brighton (4-2). Even with draws in recent matches against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham, his performances have drawn widespread praise.
Former goalkeeping coach Tony Coton, now a scout for United, played a key role in identifying Lammens as a top target. The club’s director of football confirmed Coton had been persistent in recommending the Belgian goalkeeper for over a year. “Senne was always on our radar, and we decided to move when the timing was right,” he said. “He has started well, but he must continue performing. He is very professional and reflective in his approach.”
With Lammens’ strong start and new additions integrating well, Ferguson believes Manchester United could be on the path to stabilizing their form and achieving consistent success in the Premier League.
