Kenyan youngster Aldrine Kibet has expressed immense joy and pride after earning his first-ever call-up to the Harambee Stars squad for the upcoming international friendlies in Antalya, Turkey.
Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy included the Celta Vigo forward in his latest squad as Kenya prepares to face Madagascar on November 14 and Comoros on either November 17 or 18 during the November FIFA window.
The 19-year-old striker marked the milestone moment with a short but symbolic post on social media, sharing emojis that perfectly captured his excitement. His post — featuring the Kenyan flag, prayer hands, a phone, and an upward arrow — spoke volumes about his gratitude and readiness to represent the national team for the first time.
Kibet’s journey to the national side has been nothing short of inspiring. He rose to prominence in 2023 while starring for St. Anthony’s Boys Kitale during the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Games. His dazzling performances earned him the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award, opening doors to the youth national teams.
Since then, Kibet has been a consistent performer for Kenya at youth level. He played a pivotal role in the Rising Stars’ impressive run at the 2024 CECAFA U-20 Championship in Tanzania, where Kenya secured qualification for the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). His hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Sudan at the Azam Complex remains one of the standout moments of his young career.
His success at junior level caught the attention of European scouts, leading to a move to Spain. He initially joined Nastic Sports Academy before signing with Celta Vigo’s reserve side, Celta Vigo Fortuna, where he continues to refine his game.
Kibet’s inclusion in the senior squad is a testament to his steady rise and potential to become one of Kenya’s key players in the years ahead. Fans will be eager to see him don the national colors and showcase his flair on the international stage.
