Kenya’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) are gaining momentum as construction of the Talanta Stadium along Ngong Road continues to make remarkable progress. The state-of-the-art facility is shaping up to become one of the most iconic sports complexes in the region, showcasing Kenya’s commitment to meeting the Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards for the continental tournament.
Located beyond Dagoretti Corner near Jamhuri Grounds, about 10 kilometres from Nairobi’s Central Business District, Talanta Stadium is designed to host up to 60,000 spectators. This capacity places it among the largest sporting venues in Kenya, alongside Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. Once completed, the stadium will serve as a focal point for football and rugby events, departing from the traditional multipurpose design that includes athletics tracks. Instead, independent athletics facilities are being constructed nearby to accommodate track and field events, ensuring that each discipline gets specialized infrastructure.
The stadium is part of a broader national strategy to upgrade sports facilities ahead of AFCON 2027, which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania. The government’s plan includes modernizing existing stadiums, improving training grounds, upgrading roads, and expanding accommodation capacity to meet international standards. This major infrastructure push reflects Kenya’s determination to position itself as a premier destination for sports and tourism in Africa.
Talanta Stadium’s design emphasizes modernity, functionality, and sustainability. Equipped with cutting-edge technology and world-class amenities, it will not only host football matches but also serve as a hub for concerts, cultural events, and community activities. The project aims to transform Nairobi into a vibrant sports and entertainment city, fostering youth talent and stimulating the local economy through job creation and tourism.
Once complete, Talanta Stadium will symbolize Kenya’s renewed investment in sports development and national pride. Beyond providing a venue for international tournaments, it will nurture future generations of athletes and contribute to the country’s long-term vision of becoming a global player in sports. As construction continues, optimism is high that the stadium will stand as a lasting legacy of progress and unity ahead of the highly anticipated AFCON 2027.
