Shabana FC’s struggles in the SportPesa Premier League continued on Saturday evening after they were held to a goalless draw by Kariobangi Sharks at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Despite dominating large spells of possession and creating several chances, the Kisii-based outfit once again lacked the cutting edge in front of goal. The result stretched their winless streak to five matches, a worrying trend for a side that began the season with high expectations.
Head coach Peter Okidi is now under growing pressure, as his team has failed to score in three consecutive league outings. While Shabana showed improved energy and defensive solidity, their inability to convert promising opportunities remains their biggest weakness.
After seven matches, Shabana sit seventh on the league table with eight points — two wins, two draws, and three defeats — a disappointing return for a club that had set its sights on challenging for the title. The silver lining for Okidi’s men lies in their improved fitness levels and the gradual return of key players from injury, which could help them rediscover their attacking rhythm in upcoming fixtures.
For Kariobangi Sharks, the draw provided some relief after suffering back-to-back losses in previous matches. Head coach William Muluya’s charges displayed more discipline and tactical awareness, managing to frustrate Shabana’s attackers throughout the contest. The point lifts Sharks to five points after seven rounds, placing them 14th — a slight improvement, though much work still needs to be done to climb the standings.
Elsewhere, Sofapaka registered one of their most convincing victories of the campaign, cruising to a 3-0 triumph over Nairobi United at the Dandora Stadium. Returning from continental duty, Nairobi United looked fatigued and disjointed, allowing Batoto ba Mungu to dominate proceedings.
Joseph Kuloba opened the scoring early in the first half after capitalizing on a defensive lapse, before substitute Bramwell Simiyu doubled the advantage in the 85th minute. Japheth Mzungu then sealed the emphatic win with a fine finish three minutes later to secure all three points.
The victory lifts Sofapaka to sixth place with eight points from six games, easing pressure on coach Ezekiel Akwana. Meanwhile, Nairobi United suffered their heaviest defeat since gaining promotion and remain 13th on the log with six points, though they have two matches in hand to turn things around.
