Tottenham Hotspur brought an end to Leeds United’s impressive 23-game unbeaten home run with a 2-1 victory at Elland Road on Saturday. Mohammed Kudus marked his first goal for Spurs in style, firing home a brilliant second-half strike to secure all three points for the visitors and lift them to second place in the Premier League standings, just one point behind leaders Liverpool.
The game began at a frantic pace, with both sides showing attacking intent early on. Leeds almost took the lead when former Tottenham defender Joe Rodon headed against the post, but it was the visitors who broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. Rodrigo Bentancur dispossessed Sean Longstaff deep in Leeds territory, setting up a move that ended with Mathys Tel finding the back of the net via a deflection off Pascal Struijk.
Leeds, known for their resilience under Daniel Farke, responded well to the setback. Their persistence paid off 11 minutes before half-time when Noah Okafor pounced on a rebound to level the scores. Guglielmo Vicario had initially parried Brenden Aaronson’s effort, but Okafor reacted quickest to slot home from close range after good link-up play involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Tottenham came close to restoring their advantage before the break when Tel’s powerful header from Wilson Odobert’s cross crashed against the bar. However, the decisive moment arrived just before the hour mark. A long ball from Pedro Porro caused confusion in the Leeds defence, with Gabriel Gudmundsson failing to clear his lines. Kudus capitalised on the mistake, cutting inside before unleashing a thunderous strike past Karl Darlow to make it 2-1.
Leeds pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, with substitute Joel Piroe coming closest to finding the net, only to be denied by a spectacular save from Vicario. Tottenham’s defence held firm, displaying the discipline and composure that have characterised their strong start to the season.
The result not only ends Leeds’ proud home record but also underlines Tottenham’s growing confidence and attacking depth under their new campaign. With Tel and Kudus both finding form, Spurs appear well equipped to sustain their title challenge, while Leeds will look to regroup as they aim to maintain their mid-table stability in the weeks ahead.
