Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of completing the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United for a fee in the region of £55 million. The 24-year-old forward is expected to undergo a medical soon before signing a six-year deal with the north London club.
This move appears to signal the end of Tottenham’s interest in Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo, who has made it clear he prefers a move to Manchester United. With Spurs stepping aside, United are now believed to be in pole position to secure the Cameroon international’s signature after weeks of negotiations.
Kudus has been a key figure for West Ham since arriving from Ajax in 2023 for £38 million. In two Premier League seasons, he made 65 appearances, scoring 13 goals and assisting nine times. Despite his release clause of £85 million for Premier League clubs, Tottenham have managed to agree on a significantly lower fee, avoiding the clause’s full value which was only active for the first ten days of July. European clubs would have needed to pay £80 million, while offers from Saudi Arabia would’ve triggered a £120 million clause.
The Ghanaian international is seen as an ideal addition to Spurs’ attacking options, having impressed with his versatility, pace, and creativity. The move will also mark the first signing under new head coach Thomas Frank, who was previously at Brentford. Frank had reportedly hoped to bring Mbeumo with him to north London, but the player’s desire to join Manchester United quickly shifted Tottenham’s focus.
Mbeumo had a standout season, netting 20 goals in the Premier League, and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting wingers in the league. Despite his affection for Brentford and his strong relationship with Frank, his ambition appears to lie at Old Trafford. Tottenham, recognizing this, chose not to submit an official bid for the player.
Spurs have already strengthened their squad by completing the permanent signing of Mathys Tel. The French striker impressed during his loan spell from Bayern Munich last season, helping Tottenham win the Europa League and ending the club’s 17-year wait for silverware. He now joins the team on a long-term deal worth £38 million.
With Kudus now lined up, Tottenham are adding further firepower to an already promising attacking setup. His ability to play across the front line provides tactical flexibility, and the club views his acquisition as a major statement ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, Mbeumo remains a top target for Manchester United, who are continuing talks in hopes of finalizing a deal soon. His form and impact at Brentford have drawn interest from multiple clubs, but United’s persistence may soon be rewarded.
Though Brentford value their star highly and are reluctant to let him go, they understand the reality of being a selling club. They are expected to demand a significant fee should United move forward with a formal offer, especially after Mbeumo’s standout campaign.
