Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White in a deal worth £60 million, with a medical scheduled for Friday. The 25-year-old is expected to complete the move swiftly, with the North London club triggering his release clause to accelerate the transfer.
Gibbs-White had also been on the radar of Manchester City earlier in the transfer window, but their interest appears to have cooled, leaving Spurs in pole position to secure his signature. The midfielder had an impressive campaign last season, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in 34 Premier League appearances. His performances have attracted widespread attention from top clubs, but Tottenham have moved decisively to bring him in.
His departure comes shortly after Forest sanctioned the sale of winger Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United for £55 million, signaling a significant shift at the City Ground. Gibbs-White originally joined Forest from Wolves in August 2022 for a then club-record fee of £25 million plus add-ons. Over three seasons, he made 118 appearances, netted 18 goals, and registered 28 assists.
He has also made strides at the international level, earning four England caps. His debut came during a Nations League match against the Republic of Ireland, and he most recently featured as a substitute in a friendly against Senegal.
Tottenham’s aggressive summer recruitment drive has seen them commit £115 million in just 24 hours, with the acquisition of West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus already completed for £55 million. Both Kudus and Gibbs-White are dynamic, attacking talents who fit into Spurs’ traditional style of play. More importantly, they bring valuable Premier League experience to a squad already brimming with young talent.
This recruitment strategy reflects the vision of new head coach Thomas Frank, who believes the squad needs not just promise, but proven quality in the English top flight. Kudus has spent two full seasons at West Ham, making 80 appearances across all competitions, while Gibbs-White has established himself over the past three seasons at Forest, in addition to earlier top-flight experience at Wolves.
Tottenham’s interest in other Premier League attackers such as Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeumo further underscores this approach. The club’s focus this summer is clear: to bring in players who can contribute immediately and strengthen the team’s push for a return to Champions League football.
The signings also signal a potential change in approach from Tottenham’s hierarchy, especially considering the significant financial outlay. While known for a more cautious transfer policy in the past, this summer suggests a shift towards more ambitious, proactive squad building aimed at returning the club to contention at the top end of the table.
