Manchester United’s struggles have reached a new low under manager Ruben Amorim, with damning statistics painting a grim picture of his reign. Despite arriving with high expectations, the Portuguese coach has failed to spark improvement, leaving the Red Devils languishing near the bottom of the form table.
Since Amorim took charge in November 2024, United have managed just 31 points in 31 Premier League matches, averaging a meagre one point per game. That run has produced only eight victories and left them with a negative goal difference of -13. These figures place United rock bottom when comparing all clubs across the same period, a sharp indictment of the lack of progress at Old Trafford.
To make matters worse, teams traditionally considered relegation battlers such as Fulham, Wolverhampton, and West Ham have performed better over the same timeframe. Even Tottenham, who endured their own struggles last season, have managed to turn things around in 2025-26, while United remain firmly stuck in reverse.
Amorim’s inability to lift the team has been further underlined by this season’s poor start. With one win, one draw, and two defeats so far, including a humbling 0-3 derby loss to Manchester City, United sit just above the relegation zone in 14th place. The early promise many supporters hoped for over the summer has failed to materialise, fuelling doubts about whether the current boss is the right man to lead the club out of its long-standing crisis.
Despite mounting criticism, Amorim has doubled down on his approach, refusing to make tactical or philosophical adjustments. “This is not a record we should have at Manchester United. I accept that, but I’m not going to change. I’ve played my way, and I will play my way until I want to change,” he insisted after the derby defeat.
Meanwhile, rivals at the top continue to pull away. Liverpool lead the pack with 68 points from the same period, followed closely by Arsenal and Chelsea, underlining just how far United have fallen behind England’s elite. With little sign of progress and patience among fans wearing thin, Amorim faces mounting pressure to deliver immediate results or risk going down as one of the most underwhelming managers in Manchester United’s modern history.
