The sixth edition of the Waziri 1xCup is set to make waves as it kicks off in Webuye on October 18 and 19. The competition, now a staple in grassroots football, promises an exciting season of competitive play, community engagement, and the promotion of local talent.
The launch, held at Glamour Hotel in Webuye Town on Wednesday, marked the beginning of a season that organisers hope will raise the bar for community football in Kenya. The event saw a diverse gathering of representatives from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), local county officials, media, and football stakeholders, all coming together to support the tournament’s goals.
One of the main highlights of the event was the unveiling of the tournament’s new structure and the confirmation of the draw format. The organisers, along with title sponsors 1xBet, also emphasised their commitment to grassroots football and its positive impact on local communities. The partnership with 1xBet aims to elevate the competition’s profile and ensure its long-term sustainability.
As part of the pre-launch excitement, a branded 1xCup roadshow made its way through the busy streets of Webuye, engaging with fans and creating a buzz around the upcoming fixtures. The convoy, led by MC Wayne, Sokoto, and a DJ, made stops at key locations to distribute giveaways such as branded T-shirts, caps, and reflective vests. This event helped raise awareness about the teams participating in the tournament and showcased the collaboration between the organisers and 1xBet.
Tournament founder, Salim Waziri, shared his vision for the season, focusing on high-quality organisation, inclusion, and significant social impact. Waziri emphasized that the 2025 season would not only feature competitive football but also aim for strong participation from women’s teams, highlighting the tournament’s goal of creating a more inclusive environment.
1xBet’s representative, Elena Zhdanova, reiterated the brand’s commitment to supporting sustainable football development across Kenya. “1xBet is invested in systemic change within the sports ecosystem, and the Waziri 1xCup is a perfect platform for showcasing local talent and promoting community development,” said Zhdanova.
Off-pitch initiatives continue to be a major aspect of the tournament’s mission. Previous seasons have led to the establishment of small businesses in Western Kenya, including car washes, beauty salons, and grocery shops. This year’s edition aims to expand its focus to include youth mentorship and business empowerment programs.
The organisers promise that the fixtures, group allocations, and upcoming social activations across Bungoma County will be announced soon, as the Waziri 1xCup continues to grow as one of Kenya’s most well-organised community football tournaments.
