Tusker FC chairman Charles Gacheru has confirmed the departure of forward Ryan Ogam, signaling the end of an exciting chapter for the young striker. While details of his next club remain under wraps, the move comes after Ogam’s impressive performances on the continental stage.
Ogam made headlines during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), where he scored crucial goals against Morocco and Zambia. His exploits quickly put him on the radar of several European clubs, with strong speculation linking him to Wolfsberger AC, one of Austria’s oldest football institutions.
According to Gacheru, the decision to allow Ogam to leave was made with the striker’s long-term growth in mind. He emphasized that the club wanted to place him in an environment where he could face tougher defenders, faster strikers, and play on high-quality surfaces that demand more from a player. This, he noted, is essential for unlocking Ogam’s full potential.
“The next phase for Ryan is to be in a place where the level of instruction is higher. No disrespect to our coaches, but he must be in an environment that challenges him. We want the best in him to come out, and the only way is to send him to a market where he can meet a different level of football,” Gacheru explained.
The Tusker chairman revealed that interest in Ogam soared during CHAN 2024, with his phone constantly buzzing from agents seeking to secure a deal. However, he disclosed that no official discussions were held with Ogam during the tournament itself. Instead, conversations were held with Ogam’s father, David Rabuok, as they carefully weighed the best move for the player’s career.
After weeks of deliberations, the club, the player, and his family settled on what Gacheru described as the “best destination” for Ogam, one that would allow him to flourish and potentially become a leading striker for both club and country.
For his part, Ogam has chosen to focus on the immediate task at hand helping Harambee Stars in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches against The Gambia and Seychelles on September 5 and 9. With his future now set, the forward is determined to deliver for Kenya before officially beginning the next chapter of his career abroad.
