Harambee Stars midfielder William Lenkupae has secured his future in European football after Finnish top-flight side Vaasan Palloseura (VPS) extended his contract until the end of the 2026 season.
The 23-year-old Kenyan has been a standout performer since joining VPS, becoming one of the club’s most consistent and dynamic players. His exceptional displays throughout the Veikkausliiga season have earned him two Man of the Match awards, recognition for his impressive tactical intelligence, work rate, and versatility across multiple positions.
VPS officials confirmed that the decision to extend Lenkupae’s stay was a natural step, praising his development and commitment to the club’s philosophy. The technical staff described him as a player with the potential to succeed in more competitive European leagues, emphasizing his importance to the team’s long-term plans.
Lenkupae, affectionately nicknamed “Will Wilson” by teammates, has quickly become a fan favourite in Vaasa. His ability to adapt to different roles—ranging from central midfield to the left wing and attacking midfield—has made him an invaluable asset. His contributions in both defensive and attacking transitions have been instrumental in VPS’s strong league campaign.
Beyond his club exploits, Lenkupae’s progress has also been evident at international level. Under Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy, he has earned regular call-ups and impressed during recent friendlies with his composure and technical range. His performances have solidified his place as one of the rising stars of Kenyan football.
Looking ahead, the midfielder is expected to be part of Kenya’s squad for the upcoming international fixtures against Madagascar and Comoros in Antalya, Turkey, during the November FIFA window.
The contract extension signals confidence from VPS in Lenkupae’s long-term potential and marks another milestone in his European journey. With continued development and stability in Finland, the young midfielder will be keen to elevate his performances even further as the club prepares for a promising 2026/27 season.
For both VPS and Kenya, William Lenkupae’s growth represents a bright future and a testament to the expanding footprint of Kenyan talent in European football.
