Novak Djokovic continues to make Wimbledon look like child’s play as he chases an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam title, while young stars Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek look to carve their own legacies at the All England Club.
Djokovic, 38, is brimming with confidence after dispatching Alex de Minaur in the fourth round and now prepares to face Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in the quarter-finals. The Serb joked about getting inside knowledge from his son Stefan, who had previously practiced with Cobolli. With grass being his most successful surface, Djokovic believes Wimbledon offers the best chance to surpass Margaret Court’s all-time singles Grand Slam record.
Meanwhile, world number one Jannik Sinner faces a tough test against American Ben Shelton. Sinner, who benefited from Grigor Dimitrov’s injury in the previous round, appeared to struggle physically and skipped Tuesday’s practice. On the other hand, Shelton has been electric on court, reaching his first Wimbledon quarter-final, supported by a lively entourage including his sister and girlfriend, U.S. soccer star Trinity Rodman. “It’s just been a lot of fun,” said the 22-year-old, exuding confidence and excitement.
In the women’s draw, teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva continues to capture hearts as the youngest Wimbledon quarter-finalist since 2007. The 18-year-old Russian, coached by former champion Conchita Martinez, hasn’t dropped a set en route to her clash with Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic. Bencic, who returned to the tour just months after giving birth in April 2024, is playing inspired tennis and is back in the world’s top 40. “I still want to win very badly,” she declared.
Top seed Iga Swiatek is also on a mission. The Pole has shaken off past struggles on grass and reached her second Wimbledon quarter-final, riding momentum from a recent grass final in Bad Homburg. However, she faces a tricky opponent in Liudmila Samsonova, who has a strong grass-court pedigree. Samsonova may wish she didn’t know her next opponent, having lost all four previous matches against Swiatek.
As Wimbledon enters its final stretch, the battle for glory intensifies, blending experience and youth in a thrilling showdown at SW19.
