Google has unveiled Doppl, a new experimental app that allows users to try on clothes virtually using a digital, animated version of themselves. Launched on Thursday, June 26, and available on both Android and iOS platforms, Doppl is part of the Google Labs initiative a program dedicated to testing innovative and cutting-edge technologies.
The app gives users the ability to visualize how clothes would look on their digital avatar without ever stepping into a fitting room. By leveraging advanced AI and animation tools, Doppl offers a fun, interactive experience where users can mix and match outfits and see how different styles, colors, and fits appear on their personalized animated self.
This latest development builds on Google’s recent efforts to enhance the online shopping experience. Just last month, Google Shopping introduced a feature that enables users to try on billions of clothing items by uploading a simple photo. Doppl takes that a step further by generating AI-powered videos that bring static images to life, offering dynamic previews of how an outfit flows, moves, and fits.
“We’re making it easier and more enjoyable for users to experiment with fashion right from their smartphones,” Google said in a blog post. “Doppl isn’t just about trying clothes it’s about reimagining the digital shopping journey.”
Users can create their avatar by uploading a photo or inputting basic body measurements, after which the app generates a realistic animation that can be dressed in a variety of styles from participating retailers. As the app is still under Google Labs, it remains in the experimental phase, meaning users may see continuous updates and feature enhancements in the coming months.
With Doppl, Google continues to push the boundaries of AI and augmented reality in commerce. As virtual try-on technology becomes more sophisticated, shoppers may soon rely more on digital fitting rooms than brick-and-mortar stores — making fashion more accessible, personalized, and futuristic than ever before.
