Google has rolled out a new experimental feature called Web Guide, designed to revolutionise how users interact with search results. This AI-powered tool leverages the capabilities of Gemini, Google’s advanced artificial intelligence model, to present search outcomes in a more organised and meaningful way.
Instead of delivering a traditional linear list of links, Web Guide groups search results into thematic clusters based on various aspects of the user’s query. This approach aims to provide a more structured and intuitive browsing experience, especially for open-ended or complex searches. For instance, a query like “how to solo travel in Japan” would not just yield a random list of results, but a well-arranged set of categories such as travel guides, safety tips, budgeting, and personal stories. Each section provides users with relevant information tailored to different facets of the search topic.
The feature supports multi-sentence and nuanced queries, breaking them down and delivering answers in logically segmented topics. This not only enhances the efficiency of the search process but also helps users dive deeper into areas of interest without wading through unrelated content.
Web Guide is currently accessible via Search Labs and can be found under the Web tab. Users who opt into the experiment can toggle it on or off within that tab without leaving the test environment altogether. While it is currently limited to the Web tab, there are plans to expand its functionality to the broader ‘All’ tab in the near future.
This launch is part of Google’s broader strategy to infuse Gemini AI across its suite of tools and services. Alongside Web Guide, the company has been experimenting with other AI-integrated features like AI Mode and Flow, all aimed at making digital interactions smarter and more personalised.
