Huawei has officially launched its groundbreaking FusionSolar LUNA2000-215 Series Energy Storage System (ESS), a hybrid cooling solution designed to transform the energy landscape of Eastern Africa. The unveiling took place on Friday at the Huawei Eastern Africa FusionSolar Launch held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi.
Tailored for industrial and commercial users, the LUNA2000-215 ESS is a game-changer in reliable and sustainable energy storage. Its introduction is expected to address key regional challenges including unreliable power grids, limited energy storage options, and high operational costs barriers that have hindered the full adoption of solar energy in East Africa.
With countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, and Tanzania aggressively pursuing solar energy to combat power shortages, Huawei’s new solution offers a timely intervention. The LUNA2000-215 ESS ensures a consistent and efficient energy supply by enabling businesses to store solar power effectively. Its hybrid cooling technology, ultra-fast response to shutdowns, and AI-powered monitoring offer top-tier safety and performance.
Du Peng (Olivier), CEO of Huawei Digital Power Eastern Africa, emphasized that this innovation aligns with Huawei’s broader energy vision. “With our PSSOCT Reliable Partner Model—Product, Solution, Service, Operation, Company, and Technology—we are not just delivering hardware, but long-term partnerships for energy transformation,” he stated.
The launch complements insights from Huawei’s whitepaper, Top 10 Trends of FusionSolar Launch 2025, which forecasts widespread digitalization and AI integration across solar infrastructure. By 2025, more than 90% of solar plants globally are expected to be digitalized, with over 70% utilizing AI for predictive maintenance. These innovations promise to boost operational efficiency and reduce energy downtime—critical factors for industries in East Africa.
George Aluru, CEO of the Electricity Sector Association of Kenya, lauded the development, calling the LUNA2000-215 ESS a “game-changer for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector.”
As East Africa accelerates its transition to renewable energy, Huawei’s advanced storage system positions the region to lead in sustainable and resilient power solutions.
