TikTok has unveiled a fresh suite of features aimed at giving users greater control over the content they see, helping them tailor their experience, discover new creators, and delve deeper into personal interests.
At the center of this update is the revamped ‘Manage Topics’ feature, allowing users to fine-tune the frequency of content across more than 10 popular categories, including Sports, Travel, Nature, and Creative Arts. Rather than eliminating topics entirely, this tool adjusts how often they appear, helping users shape their feed as their interests evolve.
Also introduced is a smarter Keyword Filtering system. The new Smart Keyword Filter now identifies and blocks synonyms and related terms, giving users a more effective way to filter out content they’d prefer to avoid. TikTok has doubled the keyword limit to 200, allowing users to add in bulk and customize related keyword settings. Since launch, keyword filtering has already been used over 190 million times globally.
To enhance transparency, TikTok is also launching a comprehensive educational guide. This hub will include tips on feed personalization, reasons behind content recommendations, and educational videos that have already amassed over 180 million views globally. The guide is designed to empower users with insights into how the platform curates content.
“With our new features, you can manage topics you want to see and limit keywords and hashtags you’d rather skip, making it easier to discover creators and hobbies you love,” said Adam Presser, TikTok’s Head of Operations & Trust & Safety.
These updates apply to both teen and adult accounts and build on existing safety tools such as Restricted Mode, ‘Not Interested’ feedback, and strict content eligibility standards. TikTok also continues to work on reducing the visibility of mature or potentially problematic content, especially for younger users.
By enhancing content control, TikTok aims to foster a more meaningful, positive, and tailored user experience, reinforcing its role as a dynamic platform where creators and communities can thrive
