WhatsApp has rolled out a major upgrade to its calling experience, making group calls smarter, more interactive, and easier to manage. The latest update introduces new tools such as scheduled calls, in-call reactions, and enhanced technical improvements, positioning WhatsApp closer to conferencing platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams while maintaining its hallmark end-to-end encryption.
Scheduling Group Calls
The standout addition is the ability to schedule group calls in advance. Users can now head to the Calls tab, tap the “+” button, and select “Schedule Call.” From there, they can choose the type of call voice or video set the date and time, and add participants from their contacts or existing groups. Once scheduled, WhatsApp generates a unique call link that can be shared with invitees.
These calls are displayed in a new Upcoming Calls section within the app and can also be synced with personal calendars. To ensure no one misses an important meeting or family chat, participants automatically receive reminders before the call begins.
Interactive In-Call Tools
WhatsApp is also making conversations more structured and engaging with new interactive features:
- Raise Hand: Allows participants to signal when they want to speak without interrupting the flow of discussion.
- Emoji Reactions: Quick emoji responses add a layer of non-verbal communication, making calls feel more natural.
- In-Call Messaging: A built-in chat option lets users send updates, share links, or provide clarifications without leaving the call interface.
- Screen Sharing: Perfect for work meetings or online learning, users can now share their mobile screens to present slides, documents, or apps in real time.
These features bring a balance of structure and fun to both professional and personal group calls.
Enhanced Performance
Beyond new tools, WhatsApp has also focused on technical improvements to ensure a smoother experience. Video and voice calls now feature better HD quality when supported by available bandwidth, smarter network adjustments to reduce freezing and call drops, and more reliable performance during large group calls.
A Stronger Option for Collaboration
With over two billion users worldwide, WhatsApp remains one of the most trusted communication apps. These new updates make it a powerful choice for remote collaboration, online classes, family check-ins, and community discussions all while guaranteeing end-to-end encryption for privacy.
