A shocking road rage incident claimed the lives of two boda boda operators on Sunday morning. The tragedy occurred after a police officer, driving an Audi A4, was involved in a minor collision with a motorbike carrying a passenger.
Witnesses said the officer tried to drive away but stopped when traffic slowed. This allowed other boda boda riders to catch up. What started as a minor accident quickly turned violent.
Police Officer Opens Fire
According to eyewitnesses, the riders confronted the officer over the collision. More boda boda operators soon joined, demanding justice for their colleague. In a shocking move, the officer allegedly pulled out his firearm and shot at the riders, killing two.
One witness said:
“The rider was hit from the back by a car. Other riders came to confront the driver. That is when he pulled a gun and shot the riders who were not involved in the accident.”
Fortunately, the initial accident caused only minor injuries to the motorbike rider and passenger.
Retaliation and Vehicle Torching
Following the shooting, enraged boda boda operators torched the officer’s Audi. The vehicle was completely destroyed as dozens of bystanders watched.
This was the second recent vehicle-torching incident involving boda boda riders. Days earlier, a Super Metro PSV was set on fire along Thika Road after it ran over a rider, killing him on the spot.
Investigation Underway
The police officer has been arrested, and investigations into the shooting are ongoing. Authorities are under pressure to provide answers as public outrage grows.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between law enforcement and boda boda riders. It also raises questions about road safety, accountability, and the handling of disputes on busy roads.
