The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of the Eldoret Bypass this Saturday, November 22, 2025, to facilitate the 2025 Ceder Sports Academy cycling race.
According to the notice released on Wednesday, the closure will affect the stretch from Cheplaskei Interchange to Maili Tisa (Leseru) Interchange. The road will be inaccessible between 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
KeNHA urged motorists planning to travel along this route during the closure to use an alternative route via the Cheplaskei-Maili Tisa (A8) Road through Eldoret City Central Business District (CBD). This alternative route is commonly known as Uganda Road.
The authority also reminded drivers to follow directions from traffic police officers and marshals to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow.
The Eldoret Bypass is a critical artery for vehicles traveling through Eldoret City, especially for long-distance trucks heading to Nakuru, Malaba, and the Uganda border. It is usually preferred by drivers seeking to avoid city traffic.
Earlier this year, KeNHA faced a petition urging that trucks be banned from passing through Eldoret City and redirected exclusively to the bypass. The petition highlighted the frequent accidents caused by trucks in the city and suggested the use of bypass overpasses at Ngeria, Kapseret, and Leseru for safer transit.
This weekend’s temporary closure is expected to cause delays for commuters and transporters, making early planning and route adjustments essential. Motorists are advised to account for the detour and anticipate extra travel time when passing through Eldoret.
The 2025 Ceder Sports Academy cycling race is set to bring sporting excitement to the region, but KeNHA emphasizes safety and adherence to traffic guidance during the event.
