Ena Coach has issued a travel advisory warning passengers of significant delays on the Nairobi–Nakuru and Nairobi–Narok highways, citing severe traffic congestion affecting their schedules. In a statement released on Tuesday morning, the public transport company noted that all morning and evening departures would be delayed as buses struggled to navigate persistent gridlocks.
The company explained that the congestion had disrupted the arrival of buses scheduled to pick up passengers at key points along these routes. “Dear Valued Customers, we regret to inform you that today’s departures to and from upcountry, both morning and evening, are experiencing delays due to severe traffic congestion on the Nairobi–Nakuru and Nairobi–Narok highways,” the advisory read. Ena Coach urged passengers to remain at their designated pick-up points and expressed appreciation for their patience as alternative solutions are explored to minimize the impact.
The gridlock comes after a chaotic weekend on the Nakuru–Nairobi highway, which connects the capital to Kenya’s western regions. On Sunday night, thousands of motorists were stranded for hours as traffic came to a complete standstill, particularly around Naivasha Prisons and the Keroche area. The congestion persisted into Monday night, with drivers of long-distance buses, PSVs, and private vehicles recounting hours spent trapped on the highway, with some even forced to spend the night on the roadside.
The Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA) described the situation as “total chaos” on the major highways, while motorists highlighted the lack of movement along the Kamandura–Mai Mahiu stretch. Calls have been made for urgent expansion and rehabilitation of critical segments, including the Kamandura–Nakuru dual carriageway.
Experts attribute the worsening gridlock to recent heavy rains, which have affected road conditions and slowed traffic flow. Ena Coach has apologized to passengers who endured the chaos and reassured travelers that efforts are underway to restore normal operations.
As Nairobi’s highways continue to experience high traffic volumes, motorists and passengers are advised to plan their journeys carefully, remain patient, and stay updated on travel advisories issued by transport companies.
