George Ruto, the son of President William Ruto, has introduced a groundbreaking public service vehicle (PSV) known as ‘Mood,’ which is set to ply the Embakasi route in Nairobi. The vehicle, designed to redefine matatu culture, was unveiled in a grand event at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), where music, dance, and a vibrant showcase of matatu artistry captured the attention of thousands of enthusiasts.
‘Mood’ stands out due to its futuristic design, advanced features, and unique ambiance. Unlike conventional matatus, it is tailored for a younger generation that values style, entertainment, and comfort. Among its most striking features is the DJ mixer/controller installed next to the driver’s seat, turning every trip into a mobile party. This bold addition complements the powerful audio setup, which includes massive subwoofers and auxiliary speakers that create an immersive, club-like sound experience.

Inside, the matatu is equally impressive. It is fitted with 26 custom bucket seats, each equipped with a charging port and a cup holder, ensuring that passengers can enjoy comfort and convenience on the go. The vehicle also boasts a fully air-conditioned interior an uncommon feature in Nairobi’s public transport sector providing a cool, fresh atmosphere for commuters even during peak hours.
‘Mood’ incorporates several modern technological upgrades. It comes with a push-to-start ignition system, which gives the driver a smooth and modernized experience. The vehicle is also powered by a solar energy system, ensuring continuous lighting and entertainment without dependence on the vehicle’s engine or external power sources. Its exterior is equally striking, featuring a custom number plate and vibrant artwork that embodies Nairobi’s dynamic matatu culture.

George Ruto is no stranger to the matatu business, as he is also linked to other iconic PSVs such as ‘Manifest,’ popularly referred to as ‘Moneyfest.’ This matatu, launched in July 2024, is equipped with 55-inch side television screens, multiple Pioneer subwoofers, and aesthetic modifications that prioritize both entertainment and passenger comfort. Its chameleon-tinted windscreen, bearing the phrase “The World is Yours,” exemplifies the bold design approach typical of Ruto’s projects.
With ‘Mood,’ George Ruto has once again pushed the boundaries of public transport design in Nairobi. By blending innovation, entertainment, and comfort, he is reshaping the experience of commuting, making matatu rides not just a means of transport but a lifestyle statement.
