Four people lost their lives in a tragic road accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near Kalimbini, close to Sultan Hamud. The crash involved a private car and a lorry. The smaller vehicle was mangled beyond recognition, while the lorry suffered damage to its driver’s cabin.
Police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene. They retrieved the bodies, assisted the injured, and towed the wrecked vehicles to Sultan Hamud Police Station. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. At the time of reporting, the exact number of injured people had not been confirmed.
This accident comes just weeks after another fatal crash on the same stretch of the highway at Kwa Mautiiyo in Malili. In that incident, a trailer rammed into an oncoming pick-up truck before crashing into another trailer traveling in the same direction. The pick-up truck had been overtaking when the collision occurred, killing two people and injuring three others.
David Kandie, Athi River South Sub-County Police Commander, confirmed that four people died instantly in the Kalimbini crash. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully and follow road safety rules. The Nairobi-Mombasa Highway is one of Kenya’s busiest roads and has seen multiple deadly accidents in recent months. Reckless driving and risky overtaking maneuvers continue to pose major hazards.
Authorities hope this latest tragedy will serve as a reminder for drivers to exercise caution. The government and traffic police continue to enforce safety measures to reduce accidents along major highways.
