The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of the Njoro–Mau Summit Road (B129) for 22 days to allow for major pavement reconstruction works. The closure will begin on Thursday, October 16, 2025, and end on Thursday, November 6, 2025.
According to the notice, the affected section lies about one kilometre past the Keringet Factory and two kilometres before Molo Town. The project aims to restore the road’s structural integrity and improve driving conditions along the busy route connecting Njoro and Mau Summit.
During the 22-day period, a diversion route will be in use to facilitate the movement of smaller vehicles. However, trucks and long lorries have been barred from using the diversion due to a sharp, restricted curve that poses safety concerns. Motorists operating heavy commercial vehicles have instead been advised to use alternative routes.
KeNHA has directed lorry and truck drivers heading to Molo and Mau Summit to divert through the Nakuru–Mau Summit (A8) Road via Kibunja Junction. To ensure smooth movement and safety along the designated routes, traffic marshals will be stationed along the affected stretch to guide drivers and manage congestion.
The authority has urged all road users to strictly adhere to the proposed traffic management plan and obey instructions from the marshals for their safety and that of other motorists. It further appealed for patience and cooperation during the construction period, emphasizing that the works are necessary to enhance road quality and long-term connectivity in the region.
This temporary closure is part of the government’s broader initiative to fast-track completion of stalled infrastructure projects across the country. After years of delays caused by unpaid contractor bills, the road sector has witnessed renewed momentum following a major financial injection of about Ksh175 billion through a securitisation program.
With contractors now returning to sites nationwide, including major highways and feeder roads, the government hopes to accelerate infrastructure delivery, boost regional trade, and improve mobility for residents and businesses. The Njoro–Mau Summit Road project is expected to significantly ease transport once completed, providing a smoother and safer link for commuters and freight operators traveling between Nakuru, Molo, and Mau Summit.
